Press and research
Everything on Sindicato comes from what workers report. This page is for journalists and researchers: the public CSV export, what each column means, how the data was produced and how to cite it.
Download the data
The public export is a CSV file of the cases currently visible on the public wall. It is free and needs no account.
The file holds at most the 500 most recent exported cases and is rate limited to 5 downloads per hour per address. Each request returns a fresh snapshot.
Data dictionary
One row per case. The first line of the file is the column header.
- Company Name
- The company the report is about, as named on the case.
- Company Slug
- The company's identifier in sindicato.report links, for example acme-data-labs.
- Case Type
- The category the worker chose when reporting the case: unpaid_wages, late_payment, sudden_deactivation, unfair_review, predatory_practices, harassment, retaliation, contract_violation, data_privacy or other.
- Vertical
- The kind of work: remote (online or remote work) or gig (platform gig work).
- Country
- The worker's country as they reported it. Free text, not standardised.
- Currency
- The currency of the amount, as the worker reported it (for example EUR or USD).
- Amount Owed
- The amount the worker states, if they gave one, in the currency of the Currency column. It is a claim, not a verified, agreed or awarded sum. Never add this column across different currencies.
- Status
- The case status when the file was generated. Only active cases are exported, so today this column reads active.
- Resolution
- The resolution the worker reports for the case: none, in_progress or resolved.
- Created At
- When the case was reported, in UTC (ISO 8601).
- Story Preview
- The beginning of the public story the worker wrote (up to 600 characters). Details the worker marked private are replaced with "[private detail]" before the cut.
What is not in the export: resolved, withdrawn and deleted cases are left out, and so is any case a worker has scheduled for later publication or marked unlisted. Only cases that are publicly visible when you download are exported.
Methodology
Every case is a self-reported account by a worker. Sindicato does not verify, investigate or corroborate it. A case is a report of what a worker says happened, not an established fact.
Amounts are optional, recorded in the currency the worker reported, and never added across currencies. Any total must be grouped by currency. Many cases are not about money and have no amount.
Who reports is self-selected: the data reflects workers who found Sindicato and chose to report, not a random sample of workers at a company or in a country. Few or no reports about a company are not evidence that nothing happened there.
The export is a snapshot of the time you download it. Cases can be updated, resolved or withdrawn afterwards, and details can be redacted at any time, so later downloads may differ.
How to cite
If you use the data, please cite:
Sindicato (sindicato.report), public case data export, sindicato.report/api/export/cases, retrieved [YYYY-MM-DD]. Self-reported by workers; claims are not verified.
Please also say in your text that the data is self-reported and not verified, and that any amounts are claims, not established debts.
